Some of my favorites

Published by jxs1641 at 5:36 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Here are some of my favorite things, in case you were wondering.

I’m bored, so I figured I’d ask everyone…. what are your five favorite video games, movies and CDs of all time? Here are mine:

Video Games:
- Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out (NES)
never has rascism been so much fun. Plus, little mac looks real sexy in a pink jumpsuit. “Join the Nintendo fun club, Mac!” I’ve never seen wiser coaching tactics.

- DDR (PS2)
All of the games are similar, so I just put down a general DDR. It takes my childhood love of the power pad, and combines it with funky beats. Now, if they’d only put on some Beastie love, it would be perfect.

- Marvel v. Capcom 2 (Dreamcast)
The perfect fighting game, hands down. I could spend the rest of my life playing this game, and not complain too often. Tons of characters, crazy combos and making theme teams like “communist fighters” or “lesbian x-men” make this one a keeper.

- Bubble Bobble (NES)
You’re a dinosaur who traps bad guys in bubbles, and then turns them into food when the bubbles pop. I don’t think I could have ever come up with this idea, no matter what. It sounds ridiculous, but it’s so good that when babies dream the sweet innocent dreams of babies, they dream of bubble bobble.

- Tony Hawk 2 (PS)
This game cost me my GPA, but looking back, it may have been worth it. The levels flowed naturally, there were enough moves to be interesting without being muddled, and you could skate as Spiderman. Anyone who talks shit on this game should have their skull cracked with a crowbar.

* Honorable mention to Gauntlet Legends*

Movies:

- Grosse Pointe Blank
John Cusack plays a hitman who goes back to his high school reunion. This is one of the funniest movies ever. Every time I watch it there are places that I still laugh out loud, and I’ve seen this movie probably over fifty times. Minnie Driver, Dan Ackroyd and Jeremy Piven round out an excellent cast. If you haven’t seen this, go out and rent or buy it immediately.

- So I Married an Axe Murderer
Another great comedy. Scottish people and beat poetry are a glorious combination. That’s all I have to say about that one.

- Ghostbusters
You’ll notice a pattern here. I love comedies, and Ghostbusters is a classic. There are so many great quotes in this movie, and it’s the perfect balance of comedy and truly being scary at times. It’s just fun to watch now, but I bet as a little kid, there were parts of this movie that would have creeped me out.

- Groundhog Day
Another Bill Murray movie, and probably my number one movie of all time. Again, there are tons of quotes, and the whole movie has this bastardously sarcastic overtone while at the same time retaining the sweetness of a romantic comedy. Not a chick flick, but a good movie to watch with someone you’re thinking of freakin’ on later in the evening.

- Clerks
Everyone probably knows this movie, and that’s cool. It’s crass, it’s degretory, but in the end it’s just really funny. It appeals to me because the dialogue is intelligent and quick, and because there are a lot of pop culture references, which I thoroughly enjoy.

*Honorable mention to The Blues Brothers*

Music:

White Album (The Beatles)
With the exception of “Revolution ..9,” it doesn’t get better than the White Album. The whole thing is amazing. It’s some of the best Beatles work in my opinion.

Stunt (Barenaked Ladies)
Upbeat, fairly witty and very catchy. This is one of the CDs that I can listen to without having to skip a song.

Pressure Chief (Cake)
Probably the most recent CD on my list, it just gets into your head and stays there. It’s classic Cake, and it works so well.

Paul’s Boutique (Beastie Boys)
In my opinion, the best of the B-Boys collection. It’s such a solid album, and never fails to disappoint.

Andrew Bird
My brother got me into this guy, and his stuff is just incredible. It’s what I listen to most of the time anymore, and I’d recommend it to anyone.

*honorable mention to the Grateful Dead*
